2014 Market Opening

303 York Street, Kingston, ON

“Where the farmers you meet grow the food you eat.”

Williamsville and area has a lot to look forward to this spring! The city is

revamping their section of Princess St., and the Memorial Centre Farmers’

Market (MCFM) is set to open their 3rd season. ”Our community is going

to be revitalized,” says Sue Bazely, Williamsville community activist and

market board member. “The energy and excitement is palpable.”

Kingston’s only producer-run market opens Sunday May 11th, from at

9am to 2pm. “This year, the market is intent on becoming a Sunday

destination for urban families. We have all of the ingredients in place,”

says market manager, Emma Barken. “We have a fantastic pool, a

creative playground and the dog park. Add the incredible local food and

live entertainment and we have the perfect place to spend a lazy summer

Sunday. We want folks to come for coffee, stay for lunch, and take home

MCFM offers a unique market experience, where shoppers can be

confident each vendor had a direct hand in the production of their

offerings; which range from fresh produce, to hot meals, artisanal crafts,

and plenty of take-home dinner ideas. Each week market attendees can

pick up a Sunday Night Supper menu idea offering an easy to make

recipe created largely from products sold at market that week.

With ample free parking, children’s activities, and weekly entertainment,

this market brings a taste of the country to the heart of the city. “Our

facebook page and website will keep the public up to date on all we

have going on, “says Barken. “Each month we have an extra-special

event planned, like the zucchini 500 in July and a corn roast in August!”
